Director of Transportation/Transportation Manager

Qualification

General – Certified by a Nevada licensed physician within 6 months prior to employment to be in good health including freedom from communicable disease and no physical limitations. A 2-step TB skin test is required to be completed prior to start of employment, followed by an annual 1- step IB skin test or a blood test called Quantiferon Gold ordered by a physician through Quest Diagnostics Laboratory. If presented with a documented history of positive skin test, a one time CXR and TB Questionnaire will be required. The TB Questionnaire will be required annually. A 10-panel Drug Screen test is required within 30 minutes after job offer with a negative result. A 7 year history of criminal background check and Motor Vehicle Report via Occuscreen will be performed after a negative Drug test is received, with an acceptable result per Medicaid regulations. MVR may have no more than 1 demerit point and may require approval for hire from contracted brokers (RTC and MTM). All must be done upon hire and annually thereafter.

Education/Experience Must have a current Nevada Driver’s license (CDL is required for operation of a 15 passenger vehicle or equivalent). Minimum of 1 year experience in transportation services is required. Experience in transportation of the elderly and/or physically and mentally challenged adults preferred Must be able to communicate in English. CPR & First Aid certification required. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. without any restrictions. Must be at least 25 years of age per insurance requirement.

Abilities – In addition to the responsibilities detailed in this job description, the Driver must be able to:

1. Understand the needs of the elderly and, in particular, the needs of those with cognitive impairments (memory problems, confusion, disorientation);

2. Be sensitive to the needs of family caregivers;

3. Be available to work unscheduled days and hours (Relief Drivers)

4. Be able to take on extra trips in addition to regularly scheduled trips as needed;

5. Demonstrate good communication skills;

6. Demonstrate knowledge of the routes used in transporting clients and of roadways in the

Las Vegas/Henderson service areas;

7. Demonstrate the ability to read and to understand a road map or mapquest;

8. Make a commitment to cooperative performance to attain care, organization programmatic objectives which may entail performing duties not included in this job description.

Responsibilities of the Driver

The Driver is responsible for assisting and safely transporting clients to and from the Center and their residence or to and from appointments. Responsibilities include:

1. Performing Daily Pre-Trip Checklist of vehicle;

2. Reporting immediately to the Director of Transportation, Transportation Manager or

Field Supervisor any problems related to the vehicle, routing or scheduling;

3. Reporting immediately to the Program Director/Administrator/Nursing any problems

observed or encountered while transporting clients;

4. Safe assistance and transportation of clients including escorting door to door and following the laws on the road;

5. Any citations due to violation of the laws on the road will be the responsibility of the driver, including payment of bail amount.

6. Responsible for handling of clients’ personal belongings, medications and family communications which must be conveyed from the clients’ residence to the Center and vice versa;

7. Responsible for collecting transportation fares from clients (if applicable) and submitting fares to Transportation Manager upon receipt;

8. Maintaining good rapport with family caregivers and participants;

9. Maintaining good rapport with the community;

10. Daily cleaning of the interior of the vehicle;

11. Emergency evacuation of participants if inclement weather is threatened or if there is a power failure or other reason that the Center must close;

12. Handling of emergencies en route until emergency assistance arrives at the location of the vehicle.

13. Personal possession of vehicle keys, cell phones and other accessories issued to perform the duties. Cost to replace any loss of any equipment will be the responsibility of the driver.

14. If illness occurs during transport, driver must immediately park at a safe location and contact the Director of Transportation or Transportation Manager, remain with the client(s) in the vehicle until relief arrives to take over the route. NEVER LEAVE CLIENT(S) UNATTENDED IN THE VEHICLE FOR ANY REASON.

***NOTE: FAILURE TO PERFORM DUTIES AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND CAUSES UNNECESSARY EXPENSES FOR THE COMPANY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DRIVER. CARELESS DRIVING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND MAY LEAD TO TERMINATION.
